Cholesterol and intake

Cholesterol is a fatty organic compound, chemically and of alcohol, which is necessary for the normal functioning of all animal cells, because it is an essential part of those cells and it is a precursor for the synthesis of biliary acids and steroid hormones.

But excess cholesterol in blood is dangerous, known for being the most important risk factor in arteriosclerosis, particularly coronary.

Cholesterol in our body has 2 origins:
1- The one we ingest with food (exclusively of animal origin) and constitutes 30% maximum;

2- The one our own body synthesizes, which constitutes 70% of the total.

There are foods that help our body more or less in producing cholesterol.  98% of this synthesis takes place in the liver, skin and small intestine.

Cholesterol is eliminated through the liver, transforming a great amount of it into biliary acids and the rest into etherified cholesterol.

Remembering it is only found in foods of animal origin, 40% of ingested cholesterol is absorbed and the rest is eliminated through feces.

It is estimated that a normal adult synthesizes around 1000 mg of cholesterol per day, varying according to the types of fats ingested.
