Physical activity and prevention

Regular physical activity, combined with good eating habits, can improve women’s health and contribute to the prevention of many of the illnesses that are the main causes of death and disability affecting them worldwide.

It has been widely proven that exercise helps prevent cardiovascular diseases. These diseases, which include heart disease, high blood pressure and cerebrovascular accidents, represent a third of the deaths around the world. Cardiovascular diseases are responsible for 50% of the deaths in women over 50 years of age in developing countries.

This mix of regular activity and a controlled and healthy diet, has also proven to be one of the most efficient ways for controlling slight and moderate obesity and maintain women’s ideal weight.

Diabetes affects more than 70 million women worldwide. According to estimates, this number will double by the year 2025. Diabetes, together with cardiovascular diseases, can cause blindness, damage the nervous system, kidney failure, ulcers and foot amputations. According to a recent study, even a moderate physical activity and discreet diet changes can prevent more than half of non insulin-dependant cases of diabetes.
