Heart surgeries

The priority for theses surgeries is in the type of defect, its severity and the moment it shows. Unlike the former ones, these are the hardest to diagnose with an obstetric ultrasound, they are even hard to guess. In some cases there is a special type of ultrasound, called Color Doppler that when done by expert hands, as a pediatric cardiologist, can come close to some diagnoses. Unfortunately, most babies with congenital cardiopathy do not show symptoms during the first, hours, days and even weeks of life, one of the reasons why periodic visits to the pediatrician during the first month are vitally important.

For summing the complexity of this great group, the most serious alterations that require early treatment, consist in combinations of openings in orifices and communication between cavities that are normally not there, the narrowing of great caliber arteries and veins which leave or enter the heart and/or their wrong position.
