Aerobic exercise is a physical resistance work.  This means we make the body work during a certain amount of time (30 minutes minimum) and an intermediate intensity.  It is the ideal exercise for those who start physical activity and want to improve their cardiovascular system, starting to metabolize fats with the objective of loosing weight.  Resistance athletes use this type of training too.

It is called aerobic because it allows muscles to work with an increased oxygen amount, and therefore increase cardiovascular resistance.  Other activities work with an oxygen debt: which are the ones called anaerobic activities.

The aerobic activities most practiced in gyms currently are aerobic gymnastics and other techniques such as Step (1), stationary cycling.  In the weight lifting area resistance exercise can be practiced also, using light weights and many repetitions.

According to Luis Di Gregorio, Professor of Physical Education dedicated to fitness for many years, “people started running away from aerobics because its choreography had gotten too complicated.  We already have enough complications in today’s world, people need to release stress.  They don’t only come to gyms for esthetics and health, but also to combat tension and social reasons.  That’s why a series of aerobic activities have emerged, such as the Body System (2) techniques, which are very intense but aren’t too complicated”.
