Calcium

Children and teenagers are in the stage of life in which the grow more than ever.  That’s why they need calcium and other substances that fortify their bones.  Milk and dairy products have a lot of calcium and other nutritional substances that help bones grow strong and healthy.  According to the specialists of National Health Institutes (*), the Latin family’s diet is very healthy.  But not all children and teenagers ingest enough calcium.

Calcium is a mineral naturally found in certain foods which helps bones to be strong.  We all need calcium, but children need it more because they are in a growth stage.  Besides forming and fortifying bones, calcium also reduces the risk of osteoporosis, an illness which weakens the bones and causes them to break easily when the person is older.  Children can store calcium in their bones while they are young; this helps them to have stronger bones later.

Bones can also be fortified by exercising.  To practice sports such as jogging, jumping or dancing, for example, helps fortify bones.
