War against bacteria!

It is very well known that health starts with a proper nutrition. Even though this refers more to quality and quantity of food, we can also extend this concept to its safety. How can we collaborate for making our food free of contaminants such as bacteria? For learning some basic rules, we will use the information provided by the Food and Drug Administration of USA (FDA). (*)

Despite the fact that food supply is getting safer because of health regulations and preventive measures, sometimes the foods that we eat can make us sick. Why? Because under conditions that we think are proper, an invisible enemy called bacteria can be present in food when they are bought or during their preparation, cooking, serving or storage. In fact, even when we can’t see bacteria –smell or feel them – these creatures and millions similar to them can be on a sponge, a cutting board or the food itself.

Most of the illnesses related to food can be prevented if everyone who handles and prepares food learns how to combat bacteria.
