The men of before Today’s men are not like the men before. The same as women, men have been changing to the rhythm imposed by life and needs, cultural and social changes, a much narrower world, some more certainties, others less and – above all- some less starch in the universe of genuine affection. While the market was opening its doors for women’s participation, what used to be considered “proper” of each gender started to fade. We no longer find women only in the kitchen and raising children; we find her in the office, in a meeting, while men enjoy dinner in the kitchen with their children. Yesterday’s men seem linked to formality, seriousness, strength without softness. Yesterday’s men were not allowed to cry, be weak, change diapers or prepare the baby’s bath. Yesterday’s man loved with the same intensity, but differently. He should basically be a provider: make sure nothing is missing. The world of feelings was almost entirely enveloped in a female atmosphere. Tough sports, competition, to not allow weakness, to win. Men haven’t changed, it is true. He hasn’t become a feminine man. He has won: he has become a flexible man. Collaborated in this article: Lic. Corina Vainstub |
