Introduction

Sexual behavior is influenced by multiple factors, among them, the chemical effects induced by certain substances. This is why it is difficult to truly determine the effect of a certain substance, since the response that substance is able to produce in a person depends on the interaction of factors such as: doses and pharmaceutical action of the substance, personal situation such as the predisposition and expectation of the person on the effects of the drug, the usual relationship with the sexual partner and individual personality.

For all this, the effect that a chemical substance will produce on the sexual behavior of a person is different in each individual, depending on the interaction of the factors mentioned before.

The mechanisms through which drugs influence sexual response fundamentally include a chemical alteration of the nerves or blood vessels in charge of regulating that response, making it difficult for the mechanisms of erection or orgasm. In other cases, on a cerebral level, they interfere with sexual impulse.

In men, the effects of drugs have been proven with greater precision due to the fact that the sexual response is more visible and therefore more quantifiable. Although there is determinate data that when affecting sexual interest, the effects are similar in both genders.
