Musculoskeletal pain There is a great group of chronic pain in muscles and aponeurosis (reinforcement of the union of the tendons to the bones), characterized for presenting painful points or trigger points in one or more muscles or unions in different parts of the body. It is usually accompanied by muscular contracture, limited movement of the vertebral column, neck, waist, members and in some cases even an alteration in the anatomical form of muscles and joints Specialists define them as musculoskeletal pain and myofascial pain, and these painful muscular points are the most common complaint when patients consult a pain specialist and are located by simple touch. Among the most affected persons, it is an illness that can present in both sexes, but the greatest incidence is in women between 30 and 55 years of age, with sedentary jobs, little physical activity and who occasionally decide to practice sports vigorously without the proper muscle preparation. Of the most affected muscles, the persistent and variable intensity of pain is more commonly located in the head, neck, shoulders, extremities, buttocks and lumbar region. It can present itself associated to musculoskeletal illnesses, arthritis, nerve injuries and visceral disease. Collaborated in this article: Dr. Mauro Lomónaco |
