Sexual problems Sexual dysfunctions are part of modern men’s worries. Although it is an issue “openly” discussed in the media, personal experience transforms it, most of the time, into a frustrating, secret and shameful topic. The myths surrounding male sexual dysfunctions have their fair share in the sexual mythology of our culture: it is seen, heard and known, but the fears go back to the primitive and profound. Nature gives us a genital legacy that helps sexual definitions: but it is not enough by itself. Genitals do not guarantee a certain sexual identity. Our sexual identity is anchored to a social and cultural context that defines gender. Male and female. And sexual dysfunctions are generally related to this gender mandate that not only determines social behavior but also sexual behavior and performance. As much as frigidity, vaginismus or menopausal disorders are spoken about, we hear about male impotence, premature ejaculation and climacteric. Dysfunctions are not gender exclusive, although it is true that the nature of the female orgasm would allow to hide frigidity, at least. A woman can, even for saving her sexual identity, fake orgasms. Male sexual dysfunctions are evident, can’t be hidden and therefore, scary and a cause of anxiety. Collaborated in this article: Lic.
