It’s worth the question

In a global society impoverished and beaten by all the imaginable forms of corruption and crime, it is logical to ask if it is possible for human organs to be the object of illicit economic activities. What is the difference between traffic and commerce? How does it affect the solidarity action of organ donation for transplants? Does organ trafficking exist or doesn’t it?

How can we not ask that question? We are disgusted just by thinking of an economic/illegal activity that uses human beings as objects. Specially when it is all submitted to circumstances of sickness and suffering. We are terrified by the stories of kidnappings and murders of persons, adult and young, and the rumors about the supposed objectives of the kidnappers: subtracting organs for their sale in the black market. In a world that has had to suffer the most varied – and horrible- attacks against human dignity…our conscience is inclined to think the worst. That’s why we believe we should not avoid these questions and fears, because they unsettle the population and put serious obstacles in an action of solidarity that is legally protected and encouraged as is the case of altruistic donation, with the goal of saving lives and healing the suffering of others.
