Equal towards pain?

All human beings have been born and we shall all die. There is no other situation more equal and shared than that “mortal” condition. Death, according to the East, is another process of life. Why, then, does the leaving of a loved one is so traumatic and in many cases, difficult to overcome?

A possible answer is that the awareness of our mortal condition is merely intellectual. What we know and experience daily is life, not its ending. We strongly hold on to our physical body and its full functioning, mere sickness and furthermore, death are new processes that cause anguish and fear.

Among the different losses some are easy to overcome because the lost “object” can be replaced or forgotten. But the death of a person is not like this. This process of losing a loved one is called “mourning”. It can be defined as the personal answer to a loss, in this case, the loss of a loved one.
