Responsibility or fear? While North American teenagers have chosen to delay the moment of their first sexual experience and even those who have had it took better care of themselves by using contraceptive methods, in other parts of the American continent there is an opposite trend. “Sexual activity considerably decreased among teenagers, both in girls and boys, between 1995 and 2002, while also significantly improving the use of contraceptives in this population, as shown by a new study published by the Human Health Department (HSS). The study compares the research reported in the National Poll of Family Growth of 2002 and the one reflected in an earlier poll, done in 1995.” (*) This is an American reality; later we will analyze the trend that predominates in Latin America. Meanwhile, why have North Americans made this choice; because of an increase in responsibility and awareness or for a simple (and sometimes not so healthy) fear imposed by STI prevention campaigns and teenage pregnancies? If the latter is the case, we are facing a repressive prevention of sexual activity, with a not very encouraging forecast regarding the emotional health of future adults. If, on the contrary, the decision is responsible and conscious, the benefit is certain. |
Teenage Pregnancy: It has a higher risks for both the mother and baby. An incorrect sports activity can lead to chronic injuries. |
