World Egg Day

On Friday October 13 World Egg Day was celebrated, as corollary of World Egg Week, which in 2006 was celebrated in October from Monday 9 to Friday 13.  This celebration is carried out in the 153 countries that are part of the International Egg Commission.  Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina, will be the venue of the First Gourmet Egg Week, taking advantage of the opportunity for publishing egg’s nutritional value and the benefits it provides during the different life stages.  Specialists assure that it is a food that nurtures the child, strengthens the teenager, feeds the adult and favors the elderly by preventing illnesses and promoting health.

“New research shows that eating eggs at breakfast can reduce calorie intake and promote weight loss.  Two eggs during breakfast instead of a small slice of bread, decreases hunger and calorie intake during half-morning snacks and also, during the following 24 hours.  This new research suggests that eggs are not only a great source of nutrients, but also play an important role in promoting weight loss and the feeling of fullness” (Journals of the American College of Nutrition, Vol. 24, No. 6, 510-515 (2005) “Immediate effect of egg on fullness and excess weight in obese subjects”).
