A debt that wants to be paid

Around 650 million people around the world, which represents 10% of world population, suffers some type of disability (also called different abilities), visible or not visible, and80% of them live in underdeveloped countries. They suffer countless prejudices and inequalities compared to the rest of the population, and have waited for years for an amending attitude from authorities and the general population.

The General Assembly of the United Nations Organization (UN) approved in December 2006 the International convention for the Right of Persons with Disabilities, receiving the acceptance by consensus from the 192 represented countries. It has been said that this approval constitutes a historical landmark not only for its disposition towards equality and respect for persons with disabilities, but also because for how quick its content has been agreed upon.

Since the convention, the signing governments must introduce changes in their legislation for improving and promoting access to education and employment for persons with disabilities. They are also committed to taking measures for improving the life quality of persons with disabilities so they can have access to proper health systems, information and being able to transit without physical obstacles.
