What are scars?

Wanting to have a healthy and beautiful look includes many elements of our body image: shape, hair, clothing and, for course, skin.  One of the causes for loss of beauty are the scars after traumatic events such as cuts, burns, infections, surgeries, etc.  The care we give to the affected skin zone during and after those procedures will be the key to improving the final result of the healing process.

But, what are these marks we call scars?  They have been defined as secondary injuries of the skin, produced during a wound’s healing process.  In this sense, skin scarring is a process of repair of the epithelium and replacement of the dermis with fiber tissue, fundamentally constituted by collagen.  New scars are reddish.  This is due to when the body starts to heal a wound, it produces this fiber tissue abundantly.  For nurturing this healing process, many blood vessels form taking a great amount of additional blood to the scar, producing that red color.

A good advice is not exposing new scars to sun, since they will change into a much more visible color.
