Many of the most prestigious researches of stem cells produced a catalogue in which they established the rules for manipulating human embryo stem cells, according to the information of the latest Science edition. It is a group in charge of the project of the International Society of Stem Cell Research (ISSCR), of Northbrook, Illinois. It is hoped that all the world’s scientists dedicated to working with these cells obtained from human embryos will declare their commitment to maintaining these research standards.
If these rules are followed, the ISSCR will regulate many of the procedures that are controversial for bioethics in the research of human embryo stem cells. The catalogue prohibits, among other things, human cloning. But will only set strict limits for the creation of chimeras, a product obtained from crossing a human being with an animal.
It also attempts to limit the monetary payment of women who donate ovules, and proposes the creation of a supervising group for work with human embryo stem cells. This group will also be in charge of authorizing a series of ethically controversial experiments, which are mentioned in the regulations.
